10/10/23 Pine Creek Trail

Made and ate our breakfast at the B-B; ramen and oatmeal, then drove to Jersey Shore, PA, the start of the trail. It took us a little while to configure the bikes so that everything fit and nothing rubbed. Got going around 10am. The trail is super smooth and very well-maintained, though it is also covered in black walnuts in areas, like the Erie canal trail. We ate our way north! For lunch, Patty had made Asian noodles with tofu, peppers from her garden and yummy mushrooms. In the beginning there were loads of E bikes, but it was kind of interesting that the general trend morphed into road bikes. Almost everybody was riding south (downhill). Tiadough campground is a fine, very basic campground. A third of the sites have animal hang posts, but there's absolutely no running water. We pumped from the creek. No worries. Dinner was, surprise! Burritos that Patty made. The midges were terrible, but disappeared at sundown. One other cycling tourist showed up after us. A bald eagle flew up the creek as we arrived, and then a charming little kingfisher was scooping and sweeping around the banks. At first we could only hear it's call, but eventually Patty spied it.
