We had a lovely breakfast this morning, really good coffee, fresh fruit, and a choice of main breakfast item. Dwight and I went back up to the room and filled water bottles, brushed teeth and packed up, so we could put our panniers back on our bikes and walk to a coffee shop for yet more coffee. The town is very low-key touristy. Rachel and Katie are staying another day, but Dwight and I got on the train and took it to Poughkeepsie, avoiding the potentially annoying on street route. Then we jumped back on the Hudson Valley Greenway.
From the train station, we took a bit of a convoluted pathway to get up on the old railroad bridge crossing the Hudson. That was a long, long and very popular bridge, with mostly pedestrians. Somebody with a Katy trail jersey on stopped to talk with us and recommended that when we cross the bridge back to the eastern side of the Hudson above Kingston, that we stay on the sidewalk, even though it says no bicycles.
The rail trail above Poughkeepsie was mostly flat and shaded, very
welcome. We stopped at rough draft bar coffee and books. We ordered
dinner pies there, which were very good. Our evening stop will be the
Kingston Courtyard. Dwight got it for free with points, but it's not
necessarily a great place to stay, because it's on the edge of a mall,
which we will have to retrace your steps a bit to get back to the trail.
